Rules & Legal
1. General
Yorkle (the “Game”) is provided for personal, non-commercial entertainment only. By playing, you confirm you are at least 13 years old and agree to these terms.
2. Gameplay & Scoring
Yorkle has one new daily puzzle. The 4, 5 and 6-letter games are played separately, and each length can only be completed once per day.
Scores are based on starter score, tile progress and time penalty. Starter score is based on the guess you finished on: 1 guess = 100, 2 = 90, 3 = 80, 4 = 70, 5 = 60, 6 = 50.
Tile bonus is based on progress across all guesses. Each green counts as 1 and each orange counts as 0.5, then that total is divided by the word length and multiplied by 5.
Time reduces the final score by 2 points for each full minute taken, up to a maximum penalty of 10 points.
If you lose but made some progress, your loss score is reduced to 50% of that result, but not below 20% of the starter score for that attempt band. If you get no greens or oranges at all, your score is 0.
3. Word Content & Offensive Language
We use a curated word list. Despite filtering, some words may be considered offensive. Book York Ltd does not endorse any offensive meaning and disclaims liability for any distress caused by such words.
4. User Conduct
You must not cheat, reverse-engineer, automate or otherwise subvert the Game’s fairness. Any use of bots, scripts, AI assistance or other unauthorised help is prohibited.
5. Intellectual Property & Copyright
All code, assets, word lists and related materials are © 2025 Book York Ltd. You have a limited licence to play only; you may not copy, distribute, adapt or republish any part without written permission.
6. Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability
The Game is provided “as is” and “as available.” No warranty of uptime, accuracy or fitness for purpose is made. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Book York Ltd is not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of the Game.
7. Privacy
The Game stores progress in your browser and may also send limited profile and gameplay data to our servers to support online leaderboards, sign-in key recovery, groups and synced result history across devices, with statistics derived from those results. Sign-in keys should be kept private and secure.
8. Bugs, Questions & Support
If you need help, want to report a bug or have a question about the Game, please contact info@bookyork.com.
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms at any time without notice. Continued use of the Game after any change constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

How to play, scoring, fair play and support.
The basics
Use the on-screen keyboard to build your guess. Tap Enter to submit it and Delete to remove a letter. Use the selector above the grid to switch between 4, 5 and 6-letter games. Each guess must be a valid word of the chosen length and you have 6 attempts.
- Green - correct letter, correct position.
- Orange - correct letter, wrong position.
- Grey - letter not in the word.
Scoring
Yorkle scoring works in three parts. First, you get a starter score based on how many guesses it took you to finish: 1 guess = 100, 2 = 90, 3 = 80, 4 = 70, 5 = 60, 6 = 50.
Second, the game adds a tile bonus. This rewards useful progress across all your guesses, not just the final one. Each green counts as 1 and each orange counts as 0.5, then that total is divided by the word length and multiplied by 5.
Third, time can reduce the final score. You lose 2 points for each full minute taken, up to a maximum penalty of 10 points.
If you lose but made some progress, your loss score is reduced to 50% of that result, but it will not drop below 20% of the starter score for that attempt band. If you get no greens or oranges at all, your score is 0.
- Only a first-guess solve can score 100
- The score rewards both speed and real progress
- Losses can still score points if you made genuine progress
- No greens or oranges means 0 points
